Amos vs The Crate
Amos has been crate trained from being a tiny puppy, both for his safety but also to give him a den that he could take himself off to if he wanted a snooze. Over time we moved from a wire crate to a fabric one. The fabric one became abit floppy so I wanted to move him back to the metal one.
Unfortunately the door of the metal one clattered quite loudly one day and spooked Amos who became reluatant to go in.
The video shows how far we have come in just a couple of sessions.
I wanted to show Amos that the crate door wasnt anything to be scared of so decided to teach him to let himself in there. I started by popping a nice tasty treat in the crate with the door slightly open, he had to nidge it open himself to get in there. I then upped the game so he had to open the door from closed.
He now quite happily trots into his cage to look for treats and will stay in there even with the door opening and closing.
The key to crate training is slow and steady and lots of treats.
