The dog ate my advent calendar.

I think its safe to start talking about Christmas?

It should be a great time of year for all of us. We want to make sure it’s fun and safe for our dogs as well.

Over the next few blogs I’m going to share a few thoughts  about how we can make Christmas (nearly) as much fun for our dogs as it is for us.

Advent calendars:

I have seen a huge variety of advent calendars this year from make-up to beer but the most popular must surely still be chocolate?

Did you know chocolate can be deadly to dogs?

There are some chocolates that are designed specifically for dogs. However, the recipes of our favourites human bars (mentioning no names…..) can be poisonous to our dogs.

Generally, the darker the chocolate the more dangerous it is. But so many other factors come into play. Such as the age and size of the dog and how much they eat of it.

If you are concerned that your dog has eaten chocolate ALWAYS ring your vet for advice.

It is always better to be safe than sorry. So make sure advent calendars are kept well out of a dogs reach. If they have access to the lounge don’t hang in on the fire place.

The same goes for Christmas presents that may contain chocolate. If you are wrapping selection boxes for the kids or Great Aunt Edna has given you a box or liquor chocolates (again!) don’t put them under the tree until the big day.

Hide them away in a cupboard (it saves you eating them aswell) that the dog can’t get to. Remember their sense of smell is so much better than ours so even that well wrapped box isn’t going to stop them.

It’s only a couple of weeks until we can indulge, so in the meantime please keep everyone safe.
